How Would You Ever Know....Unless You Ask.

I continue to be AMAZED by kids.  Today, I asked a 13 year old girl the LoveCup questions:

1.  How's Your LoveCup?
2.  Is there something your mom/dad could do to fill it up a little bit?

In this case, it was her dad.  Her response was "he could let me hold his arm more".  She said that when she looked for his arm to hold, he would lift it up, like when you lift it up over your head so someone can't hold you.

All I'm saying is that if we don't ask, we won't know.

This dad, by the way, had heard the class on the LoveCup, but had not tried it on his kids yet.  I know, I know...it seems a little awkward, but believe, your kids would love to answer that question.

By the way, not one kid has ever said they would like money...

"You can fill my love cup by playing basketball with me."

LAST WEEK, AN 18 YEAR OLD SAT IN MY CLASS WITH HIS MOM...CLEARLY AGAINST HIS WILL AND HE MADE SURE I KNEW IT.  HE SAT IN  THE VERY BACK AND WASN'T DISRUPTING THE CLASS, SO IT WAS NOT HARD TO IGNORE HIM.  THE TOPIC WAS THE LOVECUP.  I TALKED ABOUT HOW WE BEHAVE WHEN IT'S EMPTY AND HOW GREAT WE FEEL WHEN IT'S FULL.  I TALKED ABOUT HOW WE PARENTS KNOW WE LOVE OUR KIDS, BUT THEY MAY NOT "FEEL" LOVED WHICH IS WHY WE NEED TO ASK: "HOW'S YOUR LOVECUP?"  AND I TALKED ABOUT HOW STEP 2 IS TO ASK: "IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO FILL IT UP A LITTE?"
THE CLASS WAS ON A WEDNESDAY.  ON MONDAY, I GOT A CALL FROM THE MOM TELLING ME WHAT HAPPENED OVER THE WEEKEND.  SHE SAID SHE HAD NOT GOTTEN THE GUTS TO ASK HER SON "HOW'S YOUR LOVECUP?", BUT THAT ON SUNDAY EVENING, TO HER SURPRISE, HE TOLD HER, "MOM...YOU CAN FILL MY LOVE CUP BY COMING TO PLAY BASKETBALL WITH ME IN THE PARK."  SHE WENT AND WAS VERY HAPPY SHE WENT IN SPITE OF SPRAINING A FINGER.  SHE SAID SHE NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED THAT HE WOULD HAVE WANTED HER TO DO THAT WITH HIM.

I APPRECIATED HER SHARING THIS WITH ME BECAUSE A LOT OF TIMES PEOPLE THINK THIS LOVECUP THING IS FOR LITTLE KIDS.  IT'S NOT.  IT'S FOR EVERYONE.  WE ALL WANT TO BE LOVED.  SO, GO AHEAD, ASK YOUR KIDS.

    Bully-Proof Your Kid

    Bully-proof your kids with a good self-esteem.
We protect our kids from getting hurt, let's protect their self-esteem...even if it's from well-meaning people who love them and say things 'for their good'.
